Judges and attorneys frequently rely on information from public and private entities. Petitioners in guardianships and adoptions must go through a series of background checks. Criminal defendants and parents in child custody and parental rights cases may be required to complete assessments or be tested for the use of intoxicating substances. In every divorce case involving a minor child, each parent is required to complete an educational program concerning the impact of divorce on children.

Child Custody
The Parent Child Center of Tulsa says that its mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect through education, treatment, and advocacy. They provide a number of educational services and programs for parents in the Tulsa metropolitan area.
Oklahoma’s Administrative Office of the Courts has published some family law forms and information, including advisory guidelines for custody and visitation schedules.
Family & Children’s Services is the largest community mental health center in Oklahoma. Their “Helping Children Cope with Divorce” class complies with Oklahoma’s educational requirements for divorcing parents. Family & Children’s Services offers other resources, including classes that may be helpful to young parents and to anyone going through high-conflict child custody litigation.
Guardianships
Background checks are required for any adult living in the home of an adult petitioning for guardianship or adoption. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation runs criminal history requests for a small fee.

Human Skills and Resources provides a number of assessments and programs for individual recovery and rehabilitation. Many of their assessments are accepted by prosecutors and judges.
